oh, I forgot to say I absolutely love Drawing and I absolutely love Films and found in Storyboarding a perfect marriage of the two.
I am a Fine Art BA (Hons) Graduate of Exeter College of Art and Design. I worked for many years In Animation, as Character Animator in Classical Hand Drawn Animation, then CGI and then as a Storyboard Artist where I segued into VFX and onto Live Action Productions. Some of my favourite Artists have moved between the two, Dorothea Holt, Mary Blair, Ray Harryhausen, and Dean Tavoularis.
When I work on a Production I watch dozens and dozens of Films, what is the lineage of a Car Chase or a Staircase Fall, the history and heritage of a Gag, from escaping through the Island Fields of “Papillion” (1973) to the opening sequence chase of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), this journey can encompass all Films and all Film Makers, from “Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer” (1986) to “La Belle et la Bête” (1946), and onto “The Day the Earth Caught Fire” (1961), moving to “The 7 Ups” (1973), from “An Angel at my Table” (1990) to “Pork Chop Hill” (1959), passing onto “Afsaid” (2006), moving to “Z” (1969), ambling to “Near Dark” (1987), roving to “My Life as a Dog (1985), moving to “Plaire, Aimer et Courir Vite” (2018) and “La Ciociara” (1960) and onto “Átame!” (1989), then to “Razorback” (1984) and back to “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1978), and onto“Rolling Thunder” (1977), “Jules et Jim” (1962), “The Parallax View” (1974), “A Company of Wolves” (1984), “The Elephant Man” (1980), “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” (1964), “Robin Hood” (1973), “Alice in the Cities” (1974), “Robbery” (1967), “Carve Her Name With Pride” (1958), “A War of Children” (1972), “The Omega Man” (1971), “First Men in the Moon” (1964), “Don’t Look Now” (1973), “Napoleon” (1927), “Pierrot Le Fou” (1965), “One from the Heart” (1981), “Aliens” (1986), “Angels in America (2003), Malcolm (1986), “Oh! What a Lovely War” (1969), “Laputa, Castle in the Sky” (1986) and then to “A Matter of Life and Death” (1946), which begins with Special Effects, Animation, Painting and Drawing…
